Inside.com – From March 2015 – August 2015 Salary: Freelance, varied
Recently I worked as a freelancer for inside.com. Inside was founded as a start-up by famed angel investor, Jason Calacanis.
Inside aims to become the Twitter of journalism, identifying the need for short, concise ‘updates’ – the way many people now consume news via social media.
At Inside I previously held the role of News Curator – writing 24 170 word ‘updates’ per day, concerning a host of news stories as they break. Most recently, myself alongside two other people were in charge of Inside’s new gadget-focused vertical. For that, me and two others wrote up to 20 ‘updates’ per day concerning gadgets and technology.
I also assisted in the management of the Inside Gadgets Twitter page, posting content and growing the audience.
As part of that position, I partook in a training program, reinforcing the skills I have in delivering clear and concise content, as well as ensuring my familiarity with Associated Press style.
eTeknix – Freelance – November 2014 – March 2015
Before Inside, I wrote for eTeknix.com, a site that receives 800,000 – 1 million+ visits a month and has over 63,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook. I published between 5-10 articles a day, 7 days a week, concerning general technology news. I was also in charge of Mobile and Consumer reviews at eTeknix. Plus, I have experience in editing images to be featured on the site using Photoshop. You can see all my writing for that site here – http://www.eteknix.com/author/rsimmons/
AppleInsider – Freelance – November 2014
I have also contributed a number of articles to AppleInsider – one of the biggest Apple news sites on the web, receiving 2 million unique visitors a month.
As part of that, I was given training in the Associated Press style, giving me the tools to write clear, accurate and impartial content. You can see this evidenced in some of my named contributions, some of which are listed below.
